Court jails wife of Zambian Army officer, Ngosa, 7 years for assaulting step son

Wife of a Zambian Army officer has been sentenced to seven years simple imprisonment for assaulting her step-son using a knife and a shamboko(whip).

Longwe Ngosa, 29, wept in Court after Lusaka Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya found her guilty of one count of assaulting a child.

According to the boy’s testimony, Ngosa would beat the victim whenever he urinated on himself.

The minor told the Court that he was beaten on the face with a shamboko and hose pipe.

He also testified that the step mom used a knife to inflict injuries on him.

The court was shown the dark marks on the boy’s back and stomach, synonymous to physical abuse.

Ngosa committed the said inhumane acts on unknown dates but between April 1 and July 31, 2023.

In her defence, Ngosa had told the Court that the scars and injuries on the boy’s body were as a result of bed scores.

She denied physically abusing the boy.

However, the boy ‘s grandfather told Magistrate Mwenya, that due to the injuries, his grandson’s leg had become shorter than the other, as confirmed by the doctor.

Magistrate Mwenya found Ngosa guilty of the offence and sentenced her to seven years simple imprisonment from the date of arrest.
