Police in Lusaka are investigating a shooting incident involving Musama Mwamba, the 37-year-old daughter of former Defence Minister, Geoffrey Mwamba, who reportedly sustained gunshot wounds to her right arm after being attacked by an unknown assailant in Chalala area.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the incident, which occurred on May 16, 2025, at approximately 21:30 hours in Chalala area of Lilayi, in a statement issued on Saturday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Musama was driving a grey Nissan Patrol, registration number BAT 1887, from Central Mall to pick up her housemate in Chalala.
Unfamiliar with the location, she reportedly used Google Maps to trace the residence of her housemate, Josephine Nalungwe, who was visiting lawyer Madazi Mhango-Nkunika.
“Upon parking near the residence, an unregistered metallic green Toyota Hilux approached her. The lone male occupant asked if she knew a ‘Mrs. Kawandami.’ When she responded that she did not, the suspect reportedly drew a firearm and discharged at least three rounds at her while she was still seated in her vehicle,” Hamoonga said.
Despite her injuries, Ms. Mwamba managed to reverse and flee the scene in high gear, although she was briefly pursued by the suspect.
She eventually returned to the residence and received assistance.
She was later admitted to CFB Hospital along Addis Ababa Road and is reported to be in stable condition.
Anti-Robbery officers visited both the victim and the crime scene, confirming the vehicle had been shot at multiple times. One projectile was recovered between the driver’s seat and door.
“A docket for Unlawful Wounding has since been opened, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect,” Hamoonga said.

In a separate development, Matero Police Station recorded another shooting incident on the same date, May 16, 2025, around midnight.
During a routine patrol covering Royal Park, Commonwealth Road, Salima Road, Chunga, Shadreck, Desai, and SOS, police apprehended eight suspects for idle and disorderly conduct.
Later, the patrol team received intelligence that a group of criminals had gathered at a makeshift shop near 260 Bar along Great North Road in the SOS area. Among them was a known criminal, Nicolas Muchimwa, alias “Aka Demze,” aged 38, suspected of multiple aggravated robberies and drug dealings.
“Upon arrival, the suspects aggressively advanced towards the officers with offensive weapons including machetes and a hacksaw. Others threw stones and bottles at police officers,” Hamoonga said.
Police reportedly fired three warning shots into the air. However, two individuals were struck by stray bullets.
The individuals were identified as:
Nicolas Muchimwa alias Aka Demze (38) – shot in the head and pronounced dead on arrival at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
Rabson Mvula (26) of house number 15/15 SOS Compound – sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh and is admitted at Matero Level One Hospital in stable condition.
A search of the makeshift shop led to the recovery of:
• One grey Lenovo laptop
• One Infinix phone
• One Tecno phone
• 26 bottles of codeine
• 68 sachets of suspected cannabis
• One black bag and one small black pack
• Multiple empty plastic sachets
• One hacksaw
• Four machetes
“All recovered items have been secured as evidence. An inquiry file has been opened and investigations are ongoing,” Hamoonga stated.
He added that the Zambia Police Service remained committed to ensuring public safety and will not relent in its efforts to bring criminals to justice.
