The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed football administrator Charles Chakatazya as General Secretary with immediate effect.

Chakatazya takes over from Machacha Shepande, who has left FAZ on mutual terms after taking up an international assignment.

The FAZ Executive Committee has also confirmed Iva Lengwe as Deputy General Secretary following his period in an acting capacity.

FAZ President, Keith Mweemba, congratulated the two officials and expressed confidence in their ability to contribute positively to the growth of Zambian football.

“Today, the Executive Committee of the Football Association of Zambia met to deliberate on the appointment of the new General Secretary and the confirmation of Mr. Iva Lengwe as Deputy General Secretary following his acting role. On behalf of the Executive Committee, I wish to congratulate Mr. Charles Chakatazya and Mr. Iva Lengwe on their appointments,” Mweemba said.

He said the appointments were approved during an Executive Committee meeting convened today to deliberate on the matter.

Mweemba said both officials brought valuable experience and leadership to Football House.

“Mr. Chakatazya is a well-known football administrator who has served the game diligently at both local and international level. He has previously served as Chief Executive Officer for Nkana, Kabwe Warriors and NAPSA Stars Football Clubs. His vast experience from some of the country’s top Super League clubs will greatly benefit the association,” he said.

Chakatazya holds a FIFA Diploma in Club Management obtained in Zurich, a Certificate in Senior Leadership Development from the University of Cape Town, and is currently pursuing the CAF Executive Football Management Programme.

Mweemba thanked outgoing General Secretary Shepande for his service to the game during his tenure at Football House.

“I wish to thank Mr. Machacha Shepande for the service he rendered to the game and wish him well in his new endeavours. Even as he leaves, he remains an important member of the football family,” said Mweemba.

The FAZ president encouraged Shepande to remain available to serve football in other capacities in future.

Mweemba said he expected the new leadership team to strengthen administration at Football House.

“The appointments reflect FAZ’s focus on bringing experienced professionals into key roles,” he said.
