Hamas rejects talks as Israel reportedly perfects plans to seize the whole of Gaza

A senior Hamas official has dismissed the possibility of further ceasefire and hostage release negotiations, following Israel’s announcement that it plans to expand its ground offensive and maintain indefinite control over Gaza.

Bassem Naim told the BBC that Hamas would not consider any new proposals while Israel continues what he described as a “starvation war” against Palestinians.

“There is no point in talks under these conditions,” Naim said, rejecting Israel’s latest strategy.

Israel has stated that its objectives remain the return of hostages still held by Hamas and the group’s complete defeat.

On Monday, Israeli officials revealed plans that include the displacement of most of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents, the seizure of the entire territory, and the assumption of control over humanitarian aid—despite a two-month-long blockade.

They added that the offensive would not begin until after U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to the region next week, which they said provided Hamas with a “window of opportunity” to agree to a deal.

The plan has drawn international criticism, with Britain, France, and the United Nations expressing strong concerns.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the proposed military escalation would “inevitably lead to countless more civilians killed and the further destruction of Gaza.”

In addition, UN agencies and humanitarian partners have condemned Israel’s intention to channel aid through private companies at military hubs, calling it a violation of core humanitarian principles. They have pledged not to co-operate with the proposal.
