Immigration officers nab 25 undocumented Ethiopians in Lusaka raid

The Lusaka Regional Immigration Office has apprehended 25 undocumented Ethiopian nationals and two Zambian suspects during an operation conducted at Given Guest House in Matero on May 23, 2026.

The Ethiopians, aged between 12 and 50 years, were rounded up during an operation targeting illegal immigration and related activities in Lusaka.

According to the Department of Immigration, the two Zambian suspects identified as Floyd Chiluba Mulenga, 27, and King Lingwabo, 35, were intercepted by immigration officers as they attempted to leave the guest house in a white Toyota Vellfire bus bearing registration number ADE 5266.

I’m a statement issued on Monday by Chief Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, seventeen Ethiopian nationals were found on board the vehicle at the time of interception.

“Following preliminary interrogations, the suspects led officers to a room within the same guest house where the remaining eight Ethiopian nationals were discovered, bringing the total number apprehended to twenty-five,” he said.

Nshinka said the Ethiopian nationals and the two Zambian suspects had since been detained pending further investigations.

He added that the Department of Immigration would continue carrying out operations across the country to combat illegal immigration and related offences.

Nshinka further appealed to members of the public to cooperate with authorities by reporting suspected cases of illegal immigration and related unlawful activities to the nearest Immigration Office or other law enforcement agencies.
