Lusaka lawyer, Keith Mweemba, has been elected President of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), bringing an end to Andrew Kamanga’s nearly decade-long tenure.

Mweemba secured 45 votes at the reconvened elective Annual General Meeting held in Kabwe on Friday, outpacing four other contenders in the highly anticipated race.

Kamanga, who had served since 2016, garnered 20 votes, while former FAZ General Secretary, Adrian Kashala received 17. Francis Hafwiti and Emmanuel Munaile both failed to get a single vote.

Mweemba’s term will run from 2025 to 2029. The election was the only item on the agenda, as unanimously agreed by the FAZ Congress, and was overseen by a delegation from FIFA, CAF, and COSAFA, led by FIFA’s Senior Manager for Member Associations Governance, Ahmed Harraz.

In the Vice Presidential race, no candidate achieved the 50 percent plus one threshold, triggering a runoff. Incumbent Justin Mumba led with 41 votes, narrowly ahead of Mutale N’gandu who received 40. Christopher Kasale, with one vote, is out of the contest.

Meanwhile, Col. Priscilla Katoba was ratified as FAZ Women’s National Representative after going unopposed, with her nomination backed by Green Buffaloes Women FC and seconded by FC MUZA.
