Police in Kitwe have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a body of an unidentified man, aged between 25 and 30, lying naked in the middle of a road in Garneton East Compound.
Copperbelt Police Officer Commanding , Pathias Siandenge, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, stating that the body was found with signs of brutal assault.
“The entire body was smeared with oil, the face was swollen, and there were deep cuts on both legs along with multiple bruises,” he said.
The matter was initially reported by Lewis Chishimba, 24, a Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) officer, who called Garneton Police Station after spotting the body.
When police visited the scene, they found the naked body of the unidentified male lying on the road. A physical inspection confirmed extensive injuries, including a swollen face, bruises, and deep cuts.

“Traces of oil and blood were observed along the road, indicating the body had been dragged,” Siandenge said.
He added that residents interviewed said they heard a group of people shouting around 02:00 hours, accusing someone of being a thief and claiming he was armed with a knife.
“However, no one came out of their homes to see what was happening,” he added.
The body has been taken to Kitwe Teaching Hospital Mortuary for identification and a postmortem, as investigations into the suspected killing intensify.
