A 26-year-old Pentecostal pastor, Patrick Zulu, has been convicted of sexually abusing his 23-year-old niece, who lived in his home and had a mental disability.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, Lusaka Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya found Zulu, the leader of Apostolic Prince Ministries, guilty of defilement of a person living with a mental disability.

During the trial, Zulu remained silent while the prosecution presented seven witnesses, including his wife, who reported the abuse.
The court heard that Zulu took advantage of the victim while his wife was at work, repeatedly coercing her into sexual acts. Medical examinations confirmed physical trauma consistent with sexual assault.
The victim’s father testified that his daughter had exhibited cognitive impairments from childhood, often forgetting tasks and struggling with basic interactions.
Zulu reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming his wife’s refusal to engage in marital relations as his motive.
Magistrate Mwenya, in her ruling, highlighted the severity of the crime and committed Zulu to the High Court for sentencing.
“This offense is deeply disturbing. The accused had no lawful justification for his actions and took advantage of a vulnerable individual,” she stated.
Zulu will appear before the High Court for sentencing at a later date.
