Massive fire at Dubai skyscraper prompts evacuation of over 3,800 residents

A massive fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday at Marina Pinnacle, a 67-storey residential skyscraper in Dubai Marina, triggering a large-scale emergency response and the safe evacuation of more than 3,800 residents.

Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties in the incident, which engulfed the high-rise—also known as Tiger Tower.

According to India Today, Dubai Civil Defence teams battled the blaze for over six hours before bringing it under control.

Specialised firefighting and rescue units safely evacuated all 3,820 residents from 764 apartments, with the Dubai Media Office (DMO) stating that the evacuation was completed without incident.

“Control measures remain in place, and the situation is fully managed by the firefighting teams,” the DMO said.

It added that smoke still visible at the scene was due to ongoing cooling operations.

Authorities are now working with the building’s developer to arrange temporary accommodation for the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

This is not the first time Marina Pinnacle has been affected by fire. In 2015, a kitchen blaze on the 47th floor spread to the 48th before it was contained. The building is located near The Torch Tower, which experienced fires in both 2015 and 2017.

While officials praised the operation as a success, several residents raised concerns about the initial response inside the building.

Reports by Gulf News highlighted complaints that fire alarms were either absent or failed to function.

“I don’t think there was a fire alarm, or it didn’t work,” said Aron, a nearby worker. “Many residents only realised the building was on fire after seeing fire trucks or neighbours banging on their doors.”

The fire reportedly broke out around 9:30 p.m., drawing large crowds and a swift response from Dubai Civil Defence, police, and emergency medical teams.

Videos circulated on social media showed residents fleeing through the main entrance while smoke billowed from the tower.

“It was terrifying. We were asleep when it started. We somehow managed to get out just in time,” said one resident. “The firefighters did a commendable job, but we don’t know if anything from our belongings survived,” the resident said.

Another resident said they smelled smoke but didn’t grasp the urgency until hearing sirens and a knock from a neighbour.

“It was only then that we realised our own building was burning,” he resident said.

Despite the initial confusion, Dubai Civil Defence managed a swift and coordinated evacuation, safely guiding residents—including pets—through stairwells and elevators. No injuries have been reported.
