The co-executors of the estate of former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa have secured a consent judgment in the Lusaka High Court against Lusitu Chambers and lawyer Steve Milimo in a dispute over more than US$15,700 allegedly received in connection with estate matters.

Special Assistant to the President for Public Policy, Chipokota Mwanawasa, daughter of the late former First Lady, and former National Assembly Speaker, Dr Patrick Matibini, acting as co-administrators and co-executors of the estate, entered into the settlement after suing for recovery of US$15,708.21 and damages for alleged breach of duty of care.

The dispute arose from money allegedly collected by Milimo during the settlement of two High Court matters involving the estate, namely Elimobil (PVT) Limited v Maureen Mwanawasa and NV Alterra v Levy Mwanawasa.

According to court documents, the co-executors contended that the funds were received on various dates for the purpose of settling outstanding balances in the two matters but were not fully remitted to the intended beneficiaries.

Under the consent judgment entered before the High Court, judgment was recorded in favour of the plaintiffs for US$15,708.21, together with interest and costs.

The court ordered Lusitu Chambers and Milimo to make an immediate payment of US$7,900, while the outstanding balance of US$7,808.21 will be settled in three monthly instalments of US$2,602.72 each.

The first instalment is due on or before July 30, 2026, while the remaining payments are scheduled for August 30 and September 30, 2026.

Lusitu Chambers and Milimo have also been ordered to pay legal costs amounting to K40,000 by October 31, 2026.

The consent order further provides that failure to pay any instalment or the agreed costs will render the entire outstanding balance immediately due and payable, thereby allowing the plaintiffs to commence enforcement proceedings.
