A 25-year-old fourth-year student at Mukuba University in Kitwe has reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself on a mango tree, with the motive yet to be established.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pathias Siandenge, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, saying it occurred between 22:00 hours on June 11, 2025, and 06:00 hours on June 12, 2025, within the university premises near the old tuckshop and playground in Garneton, Kitwe.
“Be informed that Garneton Police Station received a report of sudden and unnatural death from Dr. Simango, Dean of Students at Mukuba University, indicating that a male student from the School of Biomedical Sciences, aged 25 and in his fourth year, was found hanging from a mango tree by fellow students on their way to class,” Siandenge stated.
Preliminary information indicated that the deceased, who resided in Mansion Hostels, had earlier visited a friend and appeared to be in normal spirits.

His body was discovered early the next morning hanging from a mango tree using a computer charging cable.
Police officers who visited the scene found the student hanging from the tree and noted no visible injuries on the body.
The remains were later retrieved and deposited at the Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary, pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are said to be ongoing.
