The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has intercepted an interlink truck carrying 32 bulk tanks and 40 drums of smuggled goods, resulting in a revenue loss estimated at K1.3 million.
According to ZRA Manager of Corporate Communications, Oliver Nzala, the interception occurred at the ZAWA checkpoint in Livingstone, after which the truck and its contents were escorted to the ZRA Enforcement Centre for further verification.
“Verification confirmed the consignment as smuggled goods,” Nzala said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday.
He specified that the truck was carrying 32 tanks of ethanol (1,000 litres each), 40 drums of ethanol (210 litres each), and 10 buckets of aluminium powder (25kg each)—all undeclared goods that entered Zambia through the Kazungula border.
Nzala confirmed that both the truck and the entire consignment had been seized.
He warned individuals and entities involved in smuggling activities that the Authority was committed to strictly enforcing customs laws.

“Any attempt to circumvent these laws will attract stiff penalties, including prosecution. The seizure of this truck demonstrates ZRA’s resolve in curbing smuggling,” Nzala said.
He further emphasised that smuggling was a serious offence punishable by heavy fines, imprisonment, and the forfeiture of vehicles involved.
Nzala said ZRA would continue to intensify enforcement operations to safeguard national revenue and promote fair trade practices.
“The Authority remains vigilant in its efforts to combat smuggling and protect Zambia’s economic interests,” he added.
