The President of the Movement for Change and Equity, Kaluba Simuyemba, has cautioned against attempts to push unilateral positions within the People’s Pact without broad consultation of its structures across the country.
Simuyemba stressed that the People’s Pact was founded on collective leadership and transparency, not on rushed decisions made by a few individuals.
Speaking in an interview with Zambia Monitor, Simuyemba said the Pact’s strength rested in its ability to carry all leaders across the breadth and breadth of the country before arriving at any position that affects the movement.
He noted that failure to consult widely had been the reason many political groupings collapse, as leaders end up acting on symptoms without control of the base.
“Ours, the People’s Party, is not a political party. It takes all the leadership across the breadth of the country. That is consultation. It’s very key before you come up with any position. Very, very important,” Simuyemba stated.
He warned that ignoring consultation created a situation where decisions were made and later rejected by members who were not involved, undermining unity and credibility.

The Movement for Change and Equity leader emphasized that the People’s Pact should be protected from what he termed hijack attempts by individuals seeking to advance personal agendas.
“With consensus. This is key. And we are not going to allow anyone to hijack the concept of the People’s Pact. We mean well. We are just transparent people,” Simuyemba added.
Simuyemba who serves as Vice President of Operations for the People’s Pact explained that the Pact’s approach would be deliberate and measured, prioritizing stability over public spectacle.
He also urged members of the Pact to remain focused on building it from the grassroots, insisting that transparency and patience would determine the movement’s long-term success.
The Movement for Change and Equity leader was responding to the launch of what M’membe described as the long-awaited Socialist Party and People’s Pact Manifesto, a clear vision, practical solutions, and a commitment to building a better Zambia for all.
