Zambia’s Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo has said the plans by the Government to establish an electric vehicle battery manufacturing in the region will bring massive development.

Recently, Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up an electric vehicle battery manufacturing industry to be based on the Copperbelt.

Matambo said during the debate on Budget Estimate Motion on the Committee of Supply in Zambia’s Parliament on Wednesday, December 13,2022.

Matambo said this would be a game changer.

He said the United Party for National Development (UPND) remains resolute to reducing challenges facing residents on the Copperbelt.

Matambo President Hakainde Hichilema was working tirelessly to fix all the issues in the province including those in the mining sector as it is the backbone of Zambia’s economy.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) gave the people of Copperbelt a raw deal in terms of development for the 15 years they were in control of the region.

Matambo said the former ruling party should not be claiming that the province had been ruined when they had a chance to improve people’s lives and economic status of the province for all those years.

He said Copperbelt residents should be patient as President Hichilema and his government meant well for the province and all parts of the country.

On the road infrastructure, Matambo said Lusaka-Ndola dual carriage-way construction would start shortly after the rains.

He said other roads were also on cards in the province such as Chingola -Kasumbalesa road whose contract had already been signed,Chibuluma road which would be a concrete road and first of its kind in the country.

Matambo added that Ndola -Mufulira road would also be done including construction of a modern border post.
