Police in Lusaka have instituted investigations into the suspected murder of a 31-year-old taxi driver found dead inside a Toyota Runx near the School of Law at the University of Zambia.
The victim has been identified as Able Mwape, 31, of Garden Chilulu in Lusaka, according to Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Chilabi said the incident was believed to have occurred sometime between the early hours of September 24, 2026, and 07:30 hours.
He said the matter was reported at Handsworth Police Post under Chelstone Police Station around 12:00 hours by UNZA security personnel, who found an unidentified male adult unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, registration number CAG 2255.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had a gunshot wound to the head.

“Mwape was positively identified by his wife. He was reportedly a taxi driver and had left home for work around 22:00 hours on September 23, 2026, while the vehicle owner has confirmed that he had employed the deceased as a taxi driver,” Chilabi said.
The scene was processed by officers, and the body was deposited at the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected murder.
“The Zambia Police Service is appealing to members of the public with information that may assist in the investigations to report to the nearest police station or contact the Police Emergency Lines 9010 or 9011,” Chilabi said.
