President Hakainde Hichilema has called on Zambians to draw inspiration from the ideals of the country’s founding father, Kenneth Kaunda, by promoting peace, love and unity as key drivers of national development.
The President’s message, delivered by Vice-President Mutale Nalumango during a church service marking Kenneth Kaunda Day, emphasised the need to preserve the values that defined Dr Kaunda’s leadership.
Hichilema said honouring Dr Kaunda required embracing the principles of peace, unity and love.
“Let us honour Dr Kenneth Kaunda by embracing peace, love and unity, as these are the values that will drive our country towards sustainable national development,” he said.

The commemorative service, held under the theme “Praying for national peace and general elections as we celebrate the life of KK, the patriot and peacemaker,” brought together government officials, political leaders and members of the security services.
Hichilema described Dr Kaunda as a visionary and selfless leader who placed national interests above personal ambition.
“Dr Kaunda was a remarkable leader who put the interests of the nation before his own. His legacy of sacrifice, humility and service should continue to guide us as a people,” he said.
He further highlighted Dr Kaunda’s promotion of the Ubuntu philosophy, noting its emphasis on compassion, unity and shared humanity.
“The spirit of Ubuntu that Dr Kaunda stood for teaches us compassion, unity and humanity. His ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ motto will outlive many generations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation, Reverend Robert Sihubwa, urged citizens to remain united despite differing views, especially as the country approaches general elections.
