Suffering policemen at Chiwempala police station get running water after 34 years

For the first time in 34 years, Chiwempala Police Station in Chingola now has running water, following the commissioning of a long-awaited water reticulation system.

The project, reportedly funded through the 2024 Chingola Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of K239,927.88, was officially commissioned on Saturday by Commerce, Trade, and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga, who is also Chingola Member of Parliament.

Minister Mulenga described the development as a vital step toward restoring dignity and improving operational efficiency for law enforcement officers, detainees, and the surrounding community.

“For over three decades, the brave officers of Chiwempala Police Station operated without water. Today, we correct this grave oversight and reaffirm our commitment to uplift our citizens and our law enforcement,” he said.

Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe, reiterated government’s commitment to delivering tangible development through the CDF, while Officer Commanding Chingola Police, Jennifer Mwiimbu, expressed relief and gratitude.

“For years, families brought water for detained relatives, and our officers fetched water from nearby homes just to maintain basic hygiene,” Mwiimbu said.

He stated: “This system restores dignity, improves health and safety, and enhances our efficiency.”

The project marked a significant chapter in the lives of Chiwempala’s police personnel and the local community — a long-overdue but transformative change.
