Police in Lusaka have arrested a 17 year old male juvenile in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old female pupil of Lusaka who was found dead two months ago within Kamwala South Secondary School grounds.
The girl, who was wearing a Kamulanga Secondary School uniform, was discovered lying in a bush near Luckson Mapushi Police Post by four pupils of Kamwala Secondary School.
In a statement issued on Friday in Lusaka, Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the suspect had since been formally charged with the offense of murder and is currently in Police custody.
“A report was made on March, 6, 2025 at approximately 13:10 hours through Luckson Mapushi Police Post, in which four juveniles all pupils at Kamwala South Primary School reported having discovered the lifeless body of a girl clad in a Kamulanga Secondary School uniform,” Hamoonga said.
He stated that the body was found lying in a small bush behind a heap of blocks near Luckson Mapushi Police Post, within the Kamwala South Secondary School grounds.

“The incident is believed to have occurred on the same day around 09:00 hours.
“Police officers promptly visited and secured the scene of crime, and an investigation was immediately launched,” Hamoonga said.
He added that the suspect had since been formally charged with the offence of murder and was currently in Police custody.
“The Zambia Police Service remains committed to ensuring justice is served and will continue to pursue all necessary leads to bring full closure to this matter,” Hamoonga said.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
