Two women die, one battling for life after drinking fake herbal medicines in Gwembe district

Two women have died, while one of them is battling for her life in Gwembe district of Southern Province after consuming a purported herbal body cleanser.

The victims were at first suspected to have consumed a sex boosters, but investigations revealed that they had taken a herbal body cleanser, says Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.

Mwale said in a statement issued on Monday that two men believed to be in connection with selling the women the purported body cleaners had since been apprehended.

“Mungala Nchimunya, 27 and Chooka N’gandu 26 were arrested on Friday, February 24th, this year and are yet to be formally charged,” he said.

According to Mwale, two of the women had died, while one was battling for her life in Hospital.

“Three women were reported to have had taken sex boosters in Gwembe District of Southern Province. However, Police investigations have revealed that it was not sex boosters they consumed as alleged, but a herbal substance which was identified to be for ‘Body cleansing’.

“The incident occurred on February 23, 2023 in Chipepo, Chibwenkusu village in Gwembe District around 17:00 hours,” Mwale said.
