The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has adopted Lumezi District Commissioner, Lufeyo Ngoma, as its candidate for the Lumezi Parliamentary by-election set for June 25, 2025.

UPND Elections Chairperson, Gary Nkombo, announced the decision on Monday during a press briefing at the party’s Anderson Kambela Mazoka Secretariat in Lusaka.

Nkombo said the selection process was competitive, with 14 aspirants expressing interest in the seat, later narrowed down to seven finalists.

Among those shortlisted were Malan Zimba, Isaac Zulu, Zelipa Chisulo, Ezekiel Lukhanda, and Anderson Banda.

“We had an overwhelming response from applicants, which made the process highly competitive,” Nkombo said.

He thanked all the applicants and urged political stakeholders to ensure peace before, during, and after the polls.

He also called on political parties, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), and law enforcement agencies to adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Process Act throughout the campaign period.

In his acceptance speech, Ngoma thanked the party for its confidence in him and pledged to reclaim the seat for the UPND.

The Lumezi seat fell vacant following the imprisonment of former Member of Parliament Munir Zulu.
