Zambia’s Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, has reportedly extended an invitation to UK-based Echo Eight Investments Limited to establish clean energy operations in Zambia as part of efforts to end load-shedding and ensure a reliable energy supply by December 2025.
In a statement at Zambia House in London on Monday, Minister Chikote welcomed Echo Eight’s proposal to deploy up to 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy within six months of receiving the necessary approvals. He emphasized the urgency for investors capable of delivering timely results.
The Minister also outlined Zambia’s long-term energy target of 9,000 megawatts, with aspirations to position the country as a regional power hub through new interconnector projects.
In response, Echo Eight’s founder, David Green, assured the Minister that the company, backed by substantial capital, was ready to install solar, hybrid, and advanced storage systems.
These included patented 3D solar technologies and rooftop wind units, which would contribute to Zambia’s clean energy objectives.
Mwape Chipala, Director of Planning and Information, reiterated government’s commitment to expediting processes for credible investors, noting that even a single gigawatt of power could significantly stabilize the national grid.
Allan Mtonga, Senior Financial Analyst – Petroleum, emphasized the need for innovation and speed in reaching Zambia’s energy targets.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Head of Mission, Lubu Chibwe Nxumalo, Counsellor Economic Kasalika Mulenga, and First Secretary Trade Yvonne Zulu.
