The Ndola Regional Immigration Office has apprehended 17 individuals for various immigration-related offences during a routine clean-up operation in Ndola’s Masala, Kopaland, and Chifubu areas on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
Among those detained were eleven undocumented Tanzanian nationals, discovered living in a single house in Masala, according to Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka.
The operation also led to the arrest of 36-year-old Zambian male, Mwila Kapya, his Congolese wife, and two individuals claiming Zambian citizenship in Kopaland.
Kapya was apprehended for obstructing immigration officers and harbouring illegal immigrants after denying them access to his rented premises for over five hours despite their identification.
The officers, assisted by the landlord, eventually gained entry, finding his wife in unlawful possession of both a Zambian National Registration Card and a Congolese Laissez-Passer.

The other two suspects were also taken into custody for further investigation regarding their claims of Zambian citizenship.
In Chifubu, a Zambian national was arrested at Chifubu A Secondary School for allegedly attempting to assist a Congolese national in fraudulently acquiring a Zambian National Registration Card during the mobile registration exercise.
Both individuals were detained after immigration officers uncovered the fraudulent activity.
All 17 suspects remain in custody pending further investigations and prosecution.
In a separate operation, the Kabwe Regional Immigration Office relocated 19 refugees to the Mayukwayukwa Refugee Settlement.
The group, consisting of 17 Congolese and 2 Burundians, had violated the Immigration and Deportation Act by leaving the settlement without the required mobility passes for lawful movement outside the camp.
“The Department of Immigration remains committed to enforcing the Immigration and Deportation Act and contributing to internal security,” Nshinka said.
He also warned foreign nationals attempting to exploit the ongoing mobile registration exercise, emphasizing that immigration officers were closely monitoring the process.
Any foreigner attempting to fraudulently obtain a Zambian National Registration Card will be arrested and prosecuted.
