President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to open dialogue, engaging all Zambians — including political parties — on matters of national importance.

Speaking during Labour Day celebrations in Mansa on Thursday, President Hichilema stressed the importance of nation-building anchored on hard work, unity, integrity, and patriotism.

“We appreciate the dedication of our workers, especially in the face of the worst drought our country has experienced,” adding “We remain committed to open dialogue, engaging with all Zambians, including political parties, on issues affecting our nation.”

The President further underscored his government’s determination to stimulate economic growth, generate business and employment opportunities, and enhance productivity.

“To create a safer and fairer working environment, we have ratified ILO Convention No. 190, which seeks to eliminate violence and harassment in the workplace,” Hichilema said.

“Additionally, we are addressing the cost of living, as reflected in the recent reduction in fuel prices, to improve livelihoods for all Zambians.”

In his welcoming remarks, Luapula Province Minister Nason Musonda said the hosting of the event demonstrates the New Dawn Administration’s commitment to inclusive national development while showcasing Luapula’s growing economic potential.

Musonda drew attention to Luapula’s agricultural and fisheries opportunities, as well as transformative infrastructure projects like the Mwenda-Kasomeno Road that will open new trade corridors.

In Lusaka, Vice-president, Mutale Nalumango, officiated at the Labour Day commemorations and called for the adoption of home-grown solutions as the foundation for achieving sustainable national development.

“I witnessed genuine warmth as we engaged with various workers during today’s Labour Day commemoration,” she said.

“We continue to urge small-scale entrepreneurs to take advantage of opportunities provided through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC), and the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development.”

Meanwhile, in Livingstone, Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba praised Zambian workers for their resilience and contribution to national progress.

“As government, we remain committed to creating jobs, supporting local businesses, and safeguarding workers’ rights,” Sikumba said.

“Today, we joined the people of Livingstone and the rest of Zambia in commemorating Labour Day under the theme ‘Shaping Zambia’s Future of Work Through Home-Grown Solutions.’ We salute our workers for their resilience in the face of last year’s challenges. Your dedication remains the backbone of our nation’s progress.”

Labour and Social Security Minister, Brenda Tambatamba outlined the ministry’s digital transformation agenda, revealing that 90 percent of services had been onboarded to the Zambia Employment and Labour Market Information System for greater efficiency.

“The ministry has also introduced enhanced public engagement platforms including the Citizen Support Portal for grievance resolution and an expanded Call Centre with toll-free line 7010 now accessible across all major mobile networks,” she said.

Similary, the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) President Blake Mulala pledged labor’s support for government’s anti-corruption efforts, while employer representatives committed to collaborative solutions for inclusive growth.
