Government has announced that Zambia will host the third African Implementation and Partnership Conference on Water and Sanitation (PANAFCON-3) in Lusaka.
Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu, claimed that the event would bring together over 1,500 delegates, including Heads of State, AU Commissioners, ministers, financiers, academics, civil society, and private sector representatives, to review Africa Water Vision 2025 and shape the post-2025 agenda.
Speaking at a media briefing at Government Complex, Nzovu said Zambia was selected to host the event due to its commitment to water security, climate resilience, and inclusive sanitation, along with progress in legislative reforms and infrastructure investment.
He said the conference was expected to yield significant benefits, including increased investment, tourism, job creation, and enhanced international visibility.
Nzovu also revealed that the event would cost over K32 million, with 70 percent of the funding provided by the African Union.
He called on cooperating partners and private stakeholders to support the initiative and reaffirmed government’s commitment to achieving universal access to clean water and sanitation under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership.
