Zambians advised to brace for windy, cold weather from June 9-16

Authorities in Zambia have warned that the country is expected to experience increased winds and a significant drop in temperatures from June 9 to June 16, 2024.

In its weather alert issued on Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Meteorological Department stated: “Drizzle or light rains are also anticipated in some parts of Lusaka, Central, Eastern, and Muchinga Provinces.”

The Department explained that this weather pattern was due to a high-pressure system over the southeastern coast of South Africa, which would induce a strong, moist, and cool airflow over most parts of Zambia.

The public has been urged to keep warm due to the anticipated low temperatures and to avoid open areas due to dusty conditions.

The expected weather may lead to an increase in flu and other related health conditions.

“Users of water transport and fishers are advised to take precautionary measures to avoid accidents due to expected windy conditions,” the Department advised.
