The Zambia Police Service in Lusaka has confirmed the detention of MacPherson Mukuka, aged 37, a Journalist working for the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).
Mukuka is being held in connection with an alleged offence of Prohibition of Recording a Private Conversation Without Prior Notice, contrary to Section 10 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.
In a statement issued in Lusaka, Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said the allegations related to events that occurred between July 14 and July 17, 2026.
Chilabi said Mukuka allegedly used a Facebook page known as Earth Television Zambia to publish an article that contained an audio recording of a private meeting involving several individuals.
He further stated that the recording is alleged to have been made without prior notice to the persons involved.
“The same audio was later published on the Facebook page, according to the details released by the Zambia Police Service,” Chilabi said.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and Mukuka remains in custody as police continue with inquiries.
Chilabi stated that further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile, Police through Matero Police Station, is appealing to members of the public to help identify a male juvenile who died in a fatal road traffic accident in Lusaka.
“The accident occurred on July 17, 2026, around 13:00 hours along Muchinga Road near Muchinga Ground in Matero Township,” he said
Preliminary investigations, the juvenile was hit by a Toyota Dyna light truck bearing registration number BAF 6571 which was being driven from east to west along Muchinga Road by Rashid Zulu, aged 31, of Chipata Overspill Compound, Lusaka.
Following the accident, Chilabi said the juvenile sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Matero Level One Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, awaiting identification and postmortem examination,” he said.
Chilabi said the deceased was believed to be aged between 10 and 13 years old, and his identity and residential address have not yet been established.
“The Zambia Police Service is appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the identity of the deceased or missing children matching the description above to report to the nearest police station,” he stated.
Chilabi said police in Lusaka had instituted investigations into the accident and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
