Zambian immigration authorities have deported 179 illegal immigrants following a large-scale removal operation conducted between Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, 2025.
The deportees included 149 Burundians, 10 Malawians, eight Rwandese, seven Tanzanians, two Congolese, two Ugandans, and one Mozambican.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Department of Immigration Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to rid the country of illegal immigrants and strengthen internal security.

“Most of the individuals were apprehended during intensified routine and major operations within Lusaka, while others were transferred from various regions of the country to the capital for onward removal,” Nshinka stated.
He added that most of the deportees had either paid court fines or served prison sentences for immigration-related offences, while others were removed prior to court proceedings to help decongest correctional facilities.
Nshinka urged the public to report suspected immigration violations to the nearest immigration office.
