Over 635 products earn proudly Zambian logo as government pushes industrial growth

Over 635 local products have successfully undergone a rigorous quality assurance process, meeting international standards and earning the right to bear the Proudly Zambian Logo, authorities have revealed.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga, said the Proudly Zambian Logo was more than just a mark of quality, describing it as a “symbol of trust, national pride, and consistency.”

He noted that more than 25 participating companies were now supplying local products to retail chains such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, and Cheers.

Mulenga was speaking during the launch of Manufacturers’ Month, celebrated under the theme: “40 years of excellence: Driving industrial growth through regional integration and resilience.”

He highlighted that the increasing presence of Proudly Zambian products on supermarket shelves demonstrated the value of collaboration and commitment to quality production.

“It is for this reason that this government, through the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, is spearheading transformative initiatives to strengthen our manufacturing base by supporting robust local value chains that provide easier access to raw materials and markets,” Mulenga said.

He explained that the Ministry was rolling out policy frameworks to promote industrial growth, including targeted support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and incentives to boost production.

This includes the introduction of local content legislation to prioritize Zambian products in procurement and ensure SMEs play a central role in driving economic growth.

“These interventions aim to redefine the perception of locally produced goods, build consumer confidence, and unlock the full potential of our manufacturing sector as a driver of inclusive growth and employment,” Mulenga said.

He added that the Proudly Zambian Campaign, being jointly implemented with the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM), had recorded encouraging growth, with 158 registered member companies.

Some members, he said, had even secured shelf space in filling stations such as Total and Engen, a sign of growing consumer demand for local products.

Meanwhile, ZAM President Ashu Sagar commended the government for introducing supportive measures that had boosted the industry, noting that the growth of the manufacturing sector was now evident in the number of firms accessing local and regional markets.
