The government has rolled out a new online passport application and payment system, marking a major step in the digitalisation of public services.

Delivering a ministerial statement in Parliament on Thursday, Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, said five passport-related services have been digitalised and are fully functional.

These include the application for a Zambian passport, a diplomatic passport, a refugee travel document, a COMESA Laisser-Passer, and a travel document of identity.

Mwiimbu said the new digital system would allow applicants to apply, receive feedback, and track the progress of their applications in real time.

He added that mobile money, online banking and Visa payment options were now available to enhance convenience and security.

To access the services, applicants would be required to create a ZamPass account.

The Minister also announced that processing will take 14 days for Lusaka, Ndola and Livingstone, while applications submitted in other provincial capitals will be completed within 21 days.
