A Chinese national has died after sustaining severe injuries in a violent altercation with a colleague following a drinking spree in Chingola, Copperbelt Province.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pathias Siandenge, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, revealing that the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where he had been transported by fellow Chinese nationals.
According to Siandenge, police were alerted by hospital authorities after a “brought in dead” (BID) case involving a middle-aged Chinese man was registered.
An officer dispatched to the hospital found the body and began investigations.

“Initial inquiries revealed that the deceased and the individuals who brought him to the hospital were all based in Chingola. It was established that a fight had broken out between the deceased and another Chinese national after a drinking session,” Siandenge said.
He noted that instead of reporting the matter to Chingola Police Station, the colleagues chose to transport the victim directly to Kitwe, where he succumbed to his injuries en route.
“The District Criminal Investigation Officer for Chingola has since been notified and is handling the formal report while following up on the incident,” Siandenge added.
The body has been deposited in the Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary, as investigations continue.
Police say details surrounding both the deceased and his attacker remain unclear, as the individuals who transported the body are allegedly withholding information and claiming ignorance about the circumstances of the fight.
