The Zambia Women’s National Football Team has kicked off its preparations for the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) — set to be played in 2025 — with a light recovery session in Casablanca, Morocco.
According to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), Tuesday afternoon’s mobility-focused session was led by Athletic Coach, Richard Sakala, and aimed at helping players shake off travel fatigue and adjust to the Moroccan climate.
Head Coach Nora Häuptle is expected to take charge of the team’s first full training session later this evening, as tactical drills and match preparations officially get underway.
Drawn in Group A, the Copper Queens will face hosts Morocco, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Zambia, who claimed bronze at the 2022 edition, will open their campaign against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on July 5 at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

The team will then take on Senegal on July 9 at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammédia, before wrapping up the group stage against DR Congo at the same venue on July 12.
Meanwhile, the squad has been bolstered by the arrival of China-based duo Ireen Lungu and Kabange Mupopo, joining a growing list of foreign-based stars in camp.
They include US-based forwards Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji, Israel-based veteran Racheal Nachula, and China-based winger, Fridah Mukoma.
