Former Kasama Member of Parliament, Kelvin Sampa, has filed a K6 million defamation lawsuit against Ndola-based Radio Chimwemwe over alleged false broadcasts relating to a land dispute in Chisompa.
In court documents, Sampa claims the station aired defamatory remarks between September 12 and 13, 2024, accusing him of forcibly seizing land from poor settlers on Farm No. 10210 in Ndola—a property he says he legally owns and holds title to.
The broadcasts reportedly featured individuals claiming to be settlers who accused Sampa of using political cadres and firearms to intimidate residents, fraudulently obtaining title deeds, and ignoring official summons in collusion with corrupt authorities.
Sampa, who described himself as a law-abiding citizen, said the allegations were made without verification and have damaged his personal and professional reputation.
He argued that the broadcasts portrayed him as violent, corrupt, and abusive, causing him public ridicule and emotional distress.
Sampa is seeking K6 million in damages for slander, with interest, stating that many listeners would have believed the unverified claims.
