Zambia’s Ambassador to China, Ivan Zyuulu, says digital technologies are transforming the financial landscape by creating new opportunities to reach the unbanked, under-banked, and those excluded from traditional financial systems.
Delivering a keynote address at the Digital Finance Forum during the World Internet Conference 2025 Asia-Pacific Summit in Hong Kong, Zyuulu stressed that merely digitising existing financial processes was not sufficient.
He called for the adoption of advanced tools such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), mobile technology, biometric identification, and blockchain to enhance both the delivery and accessibility of financial services.
“The integration of these digital tools offers immense benefits and can significantly advance financial inclusion in our communities,” he said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday.
Zyuulu noted that digital intelligence tools can lower the cost and increase the efficiency of delivering financial services, making it more viable for providers to serve underserved markets.
He added that such tools also help financial institutions improve customer service and manage risks more effectively.
He further observed that while digital technologies present significant potential, a large portion of the global population remained excluded from formal financial systems—a barrier that hampers economic growth and deepens inequality.
However, he acknowledged challenges in adopting these technologies, especially in developing economies, including low digital literacy, limited access to digital infrastructure, and concerns about data privacy and security.
In light of this, the ambassador urged governments, financial institutions, and technology providers to collaborate in crafting policies and infrastructure that both protect consumers and encourage innovation.
Zyuulu stated that digital intelligence tools offer a powerful pathway toward financial inclusion and a more equitable global future.
