Ghana says it will evacuate about 300 citizens from South Africa following a wave of xenophobic attacks targeting migrants from other sub-Saharan African countries.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the affected citizens had registered for assistance through the Ghana High Commission.
Reuters reports that the development follows protests in parts of South Africa against illegal immigration, with some demonstrations turning violent.

South African authorities have acknowledged challenges linked to illegal immigration while condemning xenophobic violence and pledging to act against perpetrators.
Ghana has also protested over videos circulating on social media showing violent incidents and assured citizens of government support both at home and abroad.
Other African countries, including Kenya, Malawi, Lesotho and Zimbabwe, have advised their citizens in South Africa to remain cautious and stay indoors.
Meanwhile, Nigeria says at least 130 of its citizens have requested evacuation assistance.
