Govt says K17.2 million in projects, employment programmes commissioned in Chipili

The government says it has commissioned 13 transformative projects and empowerment initiatives worth over K17.2 million in Chipili District of Luapula Province, all funded through the expanded Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Prudence Chinama, described the investment as a demonstration of government’s commitment to accelerating grassroots development.

According to a statement issued in Mansa on Tuesday, Chinama said this during the handover ceremony held at the Chipili Town Council Civic Centre on Friday.

She said the handover was not just about infrastructure, but about restoring dignity, expanding opportunity, and delivering real, visible change for the people of Chipili.

“These achievements were made possible through the government’s unprecedented CDF expansion under President Hakainde Hichilema. Before 2021, the CDF stood at just K1.6 million per constituency,” Chinama highlighted.

She stated that the figure rose to K25.7 million in 2022, then to K28.3 million in 2023, and now stood at a historic K36.1 million, and that the increase was directly translating into better social services, and economic empowerment.

Chinama urged community members to take full responsibility for the protection and sustainability of the developments.

“I also want to appeal to the Ward Development Committees and Traditional Leaders to guard the new infrastructure against vandalism and neglect,” she said.

Chinama also encouraged loan recipients to apply funds productively and repay diligently, and advised grant beneficiaries to focus on value-added ventures that will create jobs and foster local economic growth.

She cautioned that misusing these resources undermined the very purpose of the empowerment initiative and betrayed the trust placed on them by the community.

The commissioned projects include a new maternity wing at Musele Rural Health Centre, three 1×3 classroom blocks at Mukabi, Malama, and Kabongo Primary Schools, and a water scheme for the Chulu-Luongo community.

Others are a sanitation block at Lex Primary School, critical medical equipment, a roller compactor to improve feeder roads, and computer lab equipment to support youth digital literacy.
