National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, Saboi Imboela, has dismissed her reported expulsion from the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA), challenging Alliance Chairperson, Sakwiba Sikota, to either retire from politics or focus on rebuilding his United Liberal Party (ULP).
Imboela, speaking in an interview with Zambia Monitor, said Sikota had no authority to expel her from UKA, describing his move as baseless and politically irrelevant.
“We joke too much in Zambia. The old man has no such powers to expel me from the Alliance. He should concentrate on building his United Liberal Party, if it has any members, or simply retire. He is old,” she said.
Her remarks follow a letter dated May 7, 2025, in which Sikota formally expelled her from UKA for alleged gross misconduct, citing her recent public support for Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba’s presidential ambitions.
“Further to our letter of May 5, 2025, in which you were asked to exculpate yourself or face expulsion, please take note that the five days has now expired without you exculpating yourself,” Sikota wrote.
“This letter serves to formally expel you from the United Kwacha Alliance. We wish you the best in your future endeavors,” the letter read.
Imboela questioned the legitimacy of Sikota’s leadership within the alliance and demanded he prove the existence of ULP beyond himself.
