The government has urged members of the Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM) to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI), social media, and green strategies to transform Zambia into a market-driven economy that creates jobs and promotes sustainability.
Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary, Lillian Bwalya, made the call on Thursday during the launch of the 28th annual marketing conference at Southern Sun in Lusaka.
The event would be held under the theme: “Resilience and Growth Through Sustainable Marketing.”
Bwalya urged marketers to revolutionise product packaging, advertising, sales, and customer service to enhance client satisfaction.
“If marketing experts prevail, output will grow, and GDP will reflect your efforts. That is what our government wants to see,” she said.
She stated the need to position Zambia as a hub for marketing innovation by embracing digital marketing to engage clients on the social media platforms they frequent.
“Marketing resilience and growth through sustainability is not just rhetoric—it is a necessity for the future of the industry. ZIM must lead in making Zambia resilient, sustainable, and prosperous,” she added.
Meanwhile, ZIM President, Mwewa Besa, highlighted the challenges of globalization, including the influx of foreign-approved advertisements and the distribution of substandard products by companies registered abroad.
“We are currently facing an unprecedented number of direct marketing companies employing unqualified people. Many are operating without complying with the ZIM Act No. 2 of 2022,” Besa said.
He warned that ZIM had intensified inspections to ensure compliance, adding that the Institute would prosecute non-compliant companies and individuals to restore professionalism in the sector.
