Minister, Mwamba, alerts public on fake social cash transfer payments

Government has alerted members of the public on the fake messages being shared through short message service (SMS) on social cash transfer payments.

Government does not have any messages being issued to beneficiaries through SMS but communicates via community welfare assistance committees (CWACS).

This is according to the Community Development and Social Services Minister, Doreen Mwamba in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday.

Mwamba has therefore urged members of the public to ignore such messages and report them to the nearest police station.

“The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has noted with great concern the increase in the number of fake SMEs on social cash transfer payments.

“I wish to categorically state that the Ministry does not have any messages being issued to beneficiaries through SMS but communicates through CWACS,” Mwamba said.

She emphasised that the Ministry already had all the required information on beneficiaries and that it would not request for more information from them when payments were due.

Mwamba therefore warned all the perpetrators of such criminal acts that the law would visit them sooner than later if they did not desist from the vice.

“I would like to inform members of the public that they should ignore these SMEs on social cash transfer payments and report such cases to the nearest police station or call the Zambian Information and Communication Technology Authority,” she said.
