Relief for consumers as Kwacha gains drive down Nov. fuel pump prices; petrol to sell for K28.97 per litre

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has announced a reduction in fuel pump prices for the month of November, attributing the adjustment to the appreciation of the Kwacha against the United States Dollar.

According to the ERB’s monthly price review, the price of petrol has dropped from K30.58 to K28.97 per litre, while diesel has decreased from K26.20 to K25.35.

The prices of Jet A-1 and kerosene have also been reduced from K27.11 to K24.84 and from K24.78 to K23.26 per litre, respectively.

ERB Board Chairperson, James Banda, said in a statement on Friday that, based on the price review conducted on September 30, 2025, the Kwacha appreciated against the US Dollar by 7.95 percent—from K24.15 to K22.23 per US Dollar.

“Further, international oil prices for petrol declined by 2.91 percent from US$76.22 to US$74 per barrel, while diesel marginally decreased by 0.88 per barrel.

“The combined effect of the appreciation of the Kwacha against the US Dollar and the relative stability in international oil prices have influenced the pricing decision for the November 2025 price review,” he said.

Banda added that, based on these developments, the ERB had adjusted downwards the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and Jet A-1 for November.

He said the current prices would remain in effect until the next review by the ERB.
