Public policy researcher, Dr James Musonda, has called on President Hakainde Hichilema to terminate the contract of Information and Media Director Spokesperson, Thabo Kawana, for issuing statements that allegedly contradict government positions.
Musonda said it was unacceptable for Kawana to comment on the health of former President Edgar Lungu and to make other remarks that differed from official government views.
“If it is true that Information and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa has distanced government from Kawana’s utterances, then President Hichilema should consider terminating his contract,” he said.
“It suggests there are serious issues within the administration.”
He described Kawana’s disclosure of the former president’s health status as immoral and inappropriate.
Musonda further urged President Hichilema to act decisively on government officials who breach ethical or professional conduct.
“Just recently, there were allegations that a State House official was interfering in contract awards at Mopani Copper Mines, but the President has yet to act. He must address these matters with urgency,” he added.
