Elon Musk has opened the first Tesla subsidiary in Africa, as he seeks to expand the market on the continent.
The first African office is located in Casablanca, Morocco, marking a key milestone in its global expansion plans, according to Crest Africa.
The subsidiary, Tesla Morocco, was legally incorporated on May 27, 2025, with an initial capital of 27.5 million Moroccan dirhams (about 2.75 million US dollars).
Located in the Crystal Tower at Casablanca Marina, the office represents Tesla’s long-term commitment to Morocco as a regional hub and entry point into the African market.
Before this, Tesla had quietly prepared for its North African presence by installing hybrid superchargers in Casablanca and Tangier in 2021, expanding the network to cities including Rabat, Fez, Marrakesh, and Agadir.
Tesla Morocco will manage vehicle importation, sales, servicing, and charging infrastructure.
It will also distribute Tesla’s clean-energy products such as solar panels, battery storage, and energy network services.
The office will provide after-sales support, technical help, and staff training, signaling Tesla’s goal of offering a fully integrated ecosystem suited to local needs.
Tesla’s choice of Morocco is reportedly based on the country’s growing renewable energy sector, established automotive industry, and progressive investment policies, which provide a strong foundation for growth.
In April 2025, Tesla Chairman, Elon Musk confirmed plans to build a factory near Kenitra.
This factory will follow the consolidation of Tesla’s distribution and retail network, using Morocco as a base for broader expansion across Africa.
