Vice president Mutale Nalumango has arrived Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 2025 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction Summit, which will run from June 2 to 6, 2025.

The high-level summit would focus on strengthening the implementation of the Sendai Framework, enhancing national and local disaster risk reduction strategies, and promoting comprehensive risk management approaches.

According to a statement issued by Office of the Vice president Press Aide, Njenje Chizu, the Vice President’s participation underscores Zambia’s commitment to advancing disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

“This significant event, scheduled for June 2-6 at the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG) and the Varembé Conference Centre (VCC), will bring together global leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to assess progress and challenges in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction,” Chizu said.

While in Geneva, Vice president Nalumango would engage with international partners, share Zambia’s experiences, and advocate for stronger global collaboration in disaster risk management.

She is also expected to contribute to global discussions on climate change, resilience building, and sustainable development, emphasizing Zambia’s efforts in these critical areas.

The outcomes of the summit are expected to inform Zambia’s policies and strategies for disaster risk reduction, supporting the country’s broader development goals.
