President Hakainde Hichilema on Monday held bilateral talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog aimed at strengthening economic, technological, and diplomatic cooperation between Zambia and Israel.
The meeting, which was followed by a State Banquet in President Herzog’s honour, comes amid renewed engagement between the two nations marked by the recent reopening of the Israeli Embassy in Lusaka.

President Hichilema said the talks focused on expanding collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, energy, water management, education, research and development, tourism, and mining.
He added that both countries also exchanged views on the importance of promoting lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
In an official Facebook page, Hichilema described the discussions as “fruitful,” noting that Zambia and Israel share longstanding diplomatic relations built on mutual respect and shared values.
“The reopening of the Israeli Embassy in Zambia, and the reciprocal visit by President Herzog, underscore our shared commitment to deepening economic and technological partnerships,” Hichilema stated.
He said the visit also carried symbolic importance for many Zambians of the Christian faith, who view Israel as the land of the Bible.
The renewed diplomatic ties are expected to unlock new opportunities for investment and knowledge exchange, particularly in agriculture and technology — areas where Israel has demonstrated global expertise.
