‘Hands off Africa,’ NAREP condemns United States’ AFRICOM presence in Zambia

The National Restoration Party (NAREP) has demanded the immediate closure of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) Office in Zambia, denouncing its operations as contrary to the interests of Zambia and the broader African continent.

NAREP president, Ezra Ngulube, said Zambia must not serve as a staging ground for Western powers to undermine African nations, including Burkina Faso.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Ngulube, who also serves as UPND Alliance Spokesperson, declared that the era of foreign exploitation and “window shopping” in Africa was over.

He urged African nations to unite, stand firm, and harness their God-given resources for the benefit of their people.

“Hands off Africa — this is our time to stand firm,” Ngulube said.

He passionately rejected recent accusations by AFRICOM head General Michael Langley against Burkina Faso’s Captain Ibrahim Traoré regarding alleged misuse of gold reserves, describing them as an insult to African sovereignty.

“The Africa of today stands as one: you touch one nation, you touch us all,” Ngulube emphasized. “We express unwavering solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso and their leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in their pursuit of self-determination and dignity.”

He further stated that AFRICOM’s continued presence perpetuates a legacy of external interference, hindering Africa’s ability to chart its own political and economic destiny.

“United we stand; divided we fall. Africa’s progress must be driven by Africans, free from foreign agendas,” he said.

Ngulube also urged the Zambian government and regional bodies to prioritize Pan-African unity, sovereignty, and the equitable management of the continent’s resources.
