President Hakainde Hichilema has officially opened the 59th Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF), emphasizing key milestones in the country’s economic transformation agenda.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Finance and National Planning Minister, Situmbeko Musokotwane, President Hichilema reaffirmed government’s commitment to building a resilient and forward-looking economy.
“Resilience remains central to Zambia’s economic recovery agenda,” he said.
This year’s ZITF was held under the theme “Enhancing Business Resilience through Innovation and Trade”, attracting more than 1,000 exhibitors. Notably, for the first time in the event’s 59-year history, the show was not officiated by a visiting or host Head of State.

President Hichilema highlighted ambitious energy goals, announcing that in 2025 alone, Zambia aims to add 1,000 megawatts of non-hydro power generation capacity—representing 25 percent of the total generation built since independence in 1964.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Chipoka Mulenga, commended the private sector for its resilience during the ongoing drought and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to lowering the cost of doing business to stimulate industrial growth.
Copperbelt Minister, Elisha Matambo, described the successful hosting of the trade fair as a reflection of Zambia’s improving economic performance.
ZITF Board of Trustees Chairperson, Ajay Vashee, emphasized the fair’s significance in business development.
“Since its inception, the Trade Fair has played a pivotal role in reengineering business models and spurring economic growth by providing a platform for businesses to exchange ideas and showcase their offerings,” he said.
