How ex-presidential advisor, Zulu, left Zambia inappropriately —Immigration official

An Immigration officer has told the Lusaka magistrate court that former Edgar Lungu’s political advisor, Kaizer Peter Zulu, exited the country through Chirundu border between July and August 2022.

Meanwhile, Lusaka principal magistrate, Sylvia Munyinya, has set May 19, 2023 as the date she will rule whether or not Zulu has a case to answer in the matter.

Joseph Mubita an immigration officer at Kenneth Kaunda Internation Airport ( KKIA) office submitted that the search he conducted revealed that Zulu between July 2022 and August 3 2022 did not fly out of the country through the Airport but existed through Chirundu border.

In this matter, Zulu is charged with two counts of failure to report to the nearest immigration officer at the point of entry and failure to surrender a diplomatic passport.

When the matter came up before Lusaka principal magistrate Munyinya yesterday for continued trial , Mr Mubita disclosed that on December 13, 2022, an officer from immigration approached him with a view of finding out if Zulu had made entry into the country through the control system beyond July 23, 2022.

“I did the search in the system using the name of Kaizer Peter Zulu that was given to me and I found that there was no entry through the Airport,” Mubita said.

Mubita explained that when departing the country one needed to have a valid passport which was stamped and scanned .

He said upon arrival at the controls system, one has to hand over the documents to the officer who then verifies whether everything was correct and finally approves the details.

After Mubita’s testimony, State prosecutor, Brian Sianyengo, informed the court that the prosecution had closed its case in the matter.

Both the State and defence would submit their written submissions to the court after which Ms Munyinya would on May 9 2023 render her ruling on case to answer.

It is alleged in count one that Zulu between August 8, 2022 and December 9, 2022 did fail to appear before the nearest Immigration Officer at a port of
entry.

In count two it is alleged that Zulu between December 20, 2019 and December 2, 2022 in Lusaka without reasonable excuse, did fail to surrender his Diplomatic Passports No.D0012325 and D0012791 when required to do so by the Chief Passports and Citizenship Officer upon ceasing being a diplomat.
