Senior Chief Mburuma of Luangwa District has commended President Hakainde Hichilema for initiating the construction of chiefs’ palaces across the country, saying the move has restored dignity and respect for traditional leadership in Zambia.
Speaking when Lusaka Province Minister, Sheal Mulyata, inspected construction works at his palace site, Senior Chief Mburuma expressed gratitude, noting that the project had reached 70 percent completion.
“I’m very happy. This shows good care. The government of President Hakainde Hichilema has taken care of me by building this palace. I will sleep in this house once it’s completed. This is a blessing for me,” the traditional leader said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday.
The palace includes a main residence, a conference room, and housing for aides—features that the chief said reflect the government’s recognition of the important role of traditional authorities.

Mulyata, who toured the construction site on Saturday, said she was impressed with the progress and reiterated government’s commitment to completing the works by 30 June 2025.
“Our chiefs are our partners. They speak for the people in their villages, so they must be treated with dignity. One way to do that is by providing decent accommodation,” she said.
She added that President Hichilema’s development agenda leaves no one behind and emphasized that all chiefs’ palaces in Lusaka Province should be completed promptly.
“In Rufunsa, Bundabunda Palace is almost 75 percent complete. In Chongwe, we’ve handed over Mumpanshya and Shikabeta palaces. Now, we are focused on completing this one,” Mulyata said.
