The Zambian government has reaffirmed its commitment to regional economic integration with the launch of the Joint Steering Committee meeting on the operationalisation of the Katima Mulilo One-Stop Border Post (OSBP).
The meeting brings together policy-level leaders from Zambia and Namibia to review progress, resolve outstanding issues, and provide strategic direction for making the OSBP fully operational, according to Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry spokesperson Everness Nankala.
In a statement issued in Livingstone on Thursday, Nankala said the meeting is expected to foster constructive dialogue and lay out a clear roadmap for the next phase of implementation.
“Both countries are committed to making this initiative a success, enhancing trade facilitation and economic cooperation,” she said.

Similarly, Ministry Permanent Secretary for Trade and Commerce, Lillian Bwalya, emphasized that the OSBP is a critical step toward deepening regional integration, improving trade logistics, and boosting economic efficiency and competitiveness.
She noted that the meeting builds on progress made during the inaugural Joint Technical Committee (JTC) session held in Sesheke in January 2025.
Meanwhile, Namibia Revenue Agency Commissioner, Sam Shivute, echoed Bwalya’s remarks, stating that the OSBP would serve as a key enabler of economic development in both Zambia and Namibia.
“The OSBP will improve trade facilitation under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework,” Shivute said.
She further called on all stakeholders to collaborate effectively to complete the project within a short timeframe, underscoring its contribution to regional and continental economic growth.
