Zambia has officially opened a Consulate in Bangladesh, marking a key milestone in efforts to deepen bilateral engagement, foster mutual respect, and strengthen cooperation between the two nations.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to India, Percy Chanda, said the new consulate in Dhaka would serve not only Zambian citizens living in Bangladesh but also help bolster business, educational, cultural, and diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This is according to a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday by Zambia’s First Secretary for Press and Tourism in New Delhi, India, Ben Mundando.

Speaking at the official launch, Chanda said the mission would help promote trade, knowledge exchange, and joint development efforts for the benefit of both peoples.

“Zambia and Bangladesh share many values: a commitment to progress, the pursuit of peace, and the belief that diversity is our strength,” he said.

Chanda expressed gratitude to both governments, the consular staff, and all partners who made the establishment of the consulate possible.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary for Investment and Industrialisation, Crucivia Hichikumba, inaugurated the Zambia–Bangladesh Business Forum with a call for increased cooperation in key sectors.

Hichikumba urged participants to seize the opportunity to forge meaningful partnerships and explore investment prospects.

“This inaugural Zambia–Bangladesh Business Forum provides a platform to discuss business and investment opportunities in our two brotherly countries. It is my sincere hope that by the end of this Forum, areas for potential cooperation and partnerships will be identified,” she said.

The Forum is focusing on key sectors such as textile and pharmaceutical manufacturing, which are priority areas in Zambia’s economic development strategy.

In April 2024, Zambia launched its pharmaceutical strategy, which outlined the roadmap for growing the sector and enhancing its contribution to national development.
